If you’re into endurance the chances are that you will have heard of the Wim Hof Method.
So, what’s it all about?
Wim Hof is known for being able to run marathons in icy cold conditions and immerse himself in freezing waters for long periods of time. He has developed a technique that enables him to endure extreme temperatures using just the power of his mind. His technique is a powerful form of meditation that can have all kinds of positive impacts.
This technique is said to:
- Boost immune system
- Improve concentration
- Improve willpower
- Increase energy
- Relieve stress
- Improve sleep
The method involves several rounds of breathing exercises which are to be done before exposure to the cold.
1. Get comfortable
Lie down or sit comfortably for this exercise.
2. Do 30 – 40 power breaths
Take a deep breath in and exhale, but not all the way. Do this 30-40 times.
3. Hold your breath
After the power breaths, empty your lungs of air and hold it for as long as you can.
4. Breath in for 10 seconds
Take a deep breath in and hold for 10-15 seconds, before exhaling.
5. Repeat
Repeat the process for another 3 rounds, making a note of your timings for each round.
6. Meditate
Spend a few minutes or more meditating after you have finished the breathing exercises.
There are a number of disclaimers on the Wim Hof site that are worth reading before trying this method out, so we recommend heading on over there to find out more.
