Eat light

Filling up on stodgy foods when you get home and heading to bed on a full stomach might seem like a great idea, but it’s not going to help you out when the morning comes around. Your body uses up more energy to digest large portions and heavy meals, which means that it will have to work overtime in the night to process all of that food. Keep meals after 7pm light and you will feel more rested when you wake.

Waking ritual

Having a waking ritual is key to making your mornings something to look forward to. Whether you love to have an indulgent shower, read a book, listen to music or do some exercise, having a fun activity to look forward to means you will get up and out of bed much faster.

Take snooze out of the equation

Snoozing is a false economy, it teases our bodies and minds with the thought of rest without actually giving it to us. Not a great way to start the day! If you are one of those people who set their alarms with the intention of snoozing a few times, now is a good time to get out of that habit. Set your alarm for when you need to wake up and refrain from adding a snooze option.

Drink water

Keep a glass of water by your bedside table and make sure to drink it as soon as you wake up. This will help your body to come out of rest mode and put it into action for the day.

Promote deep sleep

One of the best ways to wake up energized is to actually get deep and restful sleep. You can do this by maintaining a regular sleep/wake cycle to set your natural circadian rhythm and by making sure your bed is as comfy as possible. Use cotton bedding and a temperature regulated mattress protector to ensure that you’re not too hot or too cold during the night. Also, make sure that your pillows are correctly supporting your head and neck.

Good luck!
